Default password For Lanier LD145

December 5, 2007

For those of you that need this information, the default administrator password for the Lanier Printer LD145 is as follows:

Username: Administrator

Password: password

I really hate how it is impossible to log into these printers without knowing what the password is.  There should be an option to set it or not.  99% of the world just leaves it as default anyways so it is like not having a password…

 Oh well and enjoy!

How to change the network settings on a Toshiba E-Studio 5500 Color

November 8, 2007

This was the most frustrating thing to do during the move.  For the life of me, I could not log into the web interface and it is not documented anywhere.  I will write up a little directional and hopefully the password I have is the default password and not a custom one created.  with no further a-do, here is the How to.

Log into the web interface.  If you know what the old ip address is, hit the printer with this address.  An annoying little window will pop-up saying WebTools and prompt for a login.

For my copier, I used the administrator password of Fiery.1.  I hope that this is the same for you.  A link will then appear called WebSetup.  Click this.

You then receive 4 different options to choose.  For my purposes, select Network Setup.

At this dialog, it allows you to change the network settings.

Select Save.

You need to reboot the copier in order for these changes to commit.  The easiest way to do this is to unplug the copier and plug it back in.

You are done!  Good luck if you do not know what the web administrator login is.  It took me several hours to get to the point to configure the network settings.

Repsonsibility, how much should we have?

October 22, 2007

As I sit in my cubical this fine morning, I can hear people with various computer problems.  One person is complaining about how their outlook box is full.  Another group of people are hovering around a printer as the person says that she printed it but it is not coming out.  I am just sitting here and listening to the chaos.

 Should I help?

I know the answers…

I would prefer to be flagged down and asked…these people need to learn how to resolve these issues by themselves.  Yes, I can baby that person with the full mailbox to delete the messages, but then in 2 weeks when it happens again, they will just bitch at me.

Yes, I can remove the power cord on the printer and plug it back in and watch as the document re-prints itself or clears out the queue so it doesn’t print 500 times.  These people are computer wimps and no matter how much I try to teach them, they still do not learn.  Therefore, I will stay in the shadows and listen to the insanity that is this office…

Another day in paradise!

HP Color LaserJet 4700dn 10.92.02 CARTRIDGES NOT ENGAGED

October 19, 2007

I was receiving this error code on a 4700dn in a remote office and we couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it.  I walked them through all the steps that I could think of to engage the toner.  Finally, I said, I would come on-site.

Today, I did all the same steps including, resetting the toner, opening and closing the door, and checking all the cartridges.  Finally, I hit up google and found this information out.  For the full article, go to http://www.laserquipt.com/support/idx/0/421/article/-Numerical-Printer-Messages.html

10.92.YY CARTRIDGES NOT ENGAGED

The cartridges are not engaged, poor primary transfer bias contacts, defective high-voltage supply, or control signal errors.

YY Description:

00 - Black print cartridge

01 - Cyan print cartridge

02 - Magenta print cartridge

03 - Yellow print cartridge

Open and close the front door to fully engage the cartridges.
Reseat the print cartridges.
Check the printer primary transfer bias contacts to the transfer unit. Clean if dirty. If the contracts cannot be cleaned or they are damaged, replace the transfer unit.
Replace the high-voltage power supply PCB.
Replace the DC controller PCB.

After reading this, the error said that the problem with the magenta cartridge.  I took it out and noticed a huge dent in the cartridge.  I have no idea why I did not see it before, perhaps I just assumed that none of the cartridges got banged around.  I love that website and use it for a lot of my stranger printer problems!

Cabling madness

October 10, 2007

I just recieved a call from one of my remote offices…

ME: Helpdesk

Person: Someone was doing work on my desk and we took apart my computer.  We put it back together and now I cannot get out on the internet!

ME: check the back of your computer and see if you see a bigt phone cable (ethernet cable) and make sure that it is plugged in.

Person: Everything looks like it is plugged in.

ME: Are there lights where the big phone cable is plugged in?

Person: I do not see any lights…

ME: Trace the big phone cable and make sure it is plugged in on the other side.

Person: A customer is here and knows about computers…let me put him on!

ME: Uhhhh….

Random Guy: I do not see an ethernet cable plugged into the computer.

ME: Well….that would be why it cannot get out on the internet :)
Random Guy: There is a hole in the ground where the cables are running out.  It must of fallin in there.

ME: Ok….makes scense.  Put Person back on.

Person: OK let me put you in touch with VP Assistant

VP Assistant: Hello

ME: Hey, we have a slight cabling problem…it looks like person’s cable fell down the hole!

VP Assistant: OK!  I will go into the crawl space and see what I find.

ME: OK!

A few minutes later….

Person: I figured it out!

ME: What was the problem?

Person: They plugged in the ethernet cable into my printer and it is just a local printer.

ME: THAT WILL DO IT!

Sigh…another problem solved I suppose…I still have no idea where that one guy came from or why when whoever set up the computer again, they would favor the printer over the computer!  I would rather be able to get out on the internet than print….People always suprise me!

Printer problems with Canon C4080 Image Runner

October 3, 2007

One of my offices got a new printer and needed it to be setup on the print server.  Not a problem, I thought, this will take all of 10 minutes to do.  Well I go to configure the printer with the driver cd that came with it and recieved this gem of an error message.

“Cannot print because the version of the device controller function is old.  Contact the administrator for details”

I scratched my head and tried another driver.  This time it printed to the printer but gave a 854 error code in the job status.  At this point, I am furious!  It should not be this hard to configure a damned printer.

The last straw was to download drivers from the internet.  I got PS drivers instead of the PCL drivers that was provided on the CD.  This worked like a charm!  Next task is to get scanning to work!!!
