Snowball 2008 Review

January 25, 2008

This new game called Snowball 2008 is the worst game that I have ever played.  First, there are technical problems which prevent the game running on some platforms.  The whole game gives you the impression that it’s not going to work well right from the beginning with continued messages about what to do if you have problems.  I tested it out of five different machines, and it only worked on two of them.
http://www.ugoplayer.com/games/armorgamessnowball2008.html

On the machines I did test it on, I only felt like I wasted my time.  It’s rendered in 3-D, which is probably why all the technical problems, but the gameplay sucks.  It’s counter-intuitive, and it sucks.

Did I mention this game sucks?

I’ve never played a game this bad.  Don’t waste your time.

New Baseball Management Game, SimYard, set for release next week

January 23, 2008

Next week will see the release of a brand new entry into the Baseball Management Game genre: SimYard.  SimYard will offer a massively multiplayer universe for owning and managing a baseball team and competing with other players on and off the field.   Each month is a new season and you train your players each month to improve their abilities.  The training results are based on training method and season experience.

SimYard is scheduled to open to the public on February 1, 2008.  Memberships will be available a month later allowing for players to join leagues, handle a team budget, build a stadium, and win pennants.

SimYard is based in the past, and offers a chance to rewrite baseball history.  February will see the 1898 season, and each year will build on the stats from the previous.  You will have the opportunity to turn one of your players into the first superstar of baseball and have your own Babe Ruth.

See you next week at the opening!

Cirplosion Review

January 22, 2008

Make your circle as big as you can without hitting any of the moving orbs.  Once you’re done inflating, try to destroy all the orbs by capturing them within your circle in as few clicks as possible.

http://www.addictinggames.com/cirplosion.html

Cirplosion is one of the latest games posted to addictinggames.com.  The game happens in two parts.  In the first part, the strategy is to get your circle to be as big as possible.  If your circle hits an edge or an orb, you lose a life and have to start over.  Once you’ve stopped inflating your circle, it becomes the marker for the second part, where you have to destroy all the orbs.  Wait until the most amount of orbs are inside your circle and zap them.  Through all of this, you have a time limit to complete the cirplosions within.

Each level has more orbs, and allows you more cirplosions to capture them.  I found the game pretty simple, but it can get difficult in the higher levels.  Good luck!

SimYard Roster and Stats Screenshots

January 19, 2008

I posted some new screenshots for SimYard, my new baseball management simulator which is going to be open to the public soon.  You can view them on the homepage.  They focus on your team: setting your lineup and pitching rotation, viewing results and stats.

The beta test for SimYard will begin in less than two weeks.  I’m expecting the servers sometime next week, and it shouldn’t be too bad to configure and test them.  I’ve got great hosting lined up, and everything’s ready to rock and roll.

I hope you’ll come by and play.  February will be the inaugural 1898 season, and each month after that will be a new year.  There will be a tournament at the end of February, and only the best teams will be invited to play.

Kick Koopa’s Ass

January 17, 2008

Koopa and I here in the blog have a little friendly competition. We’re trying to create blog posts that create lots of hits. So far, I’m totally kicking his ass, but I’d like to continue doing that, and I’d like to ask for your help.

Actually, you’ve already helped, and thank you. You are being counted as one of the people who viewed this post, and given it a hit. You can count once every day (based on London Time), so bookmark this page and check it often. I will post updates in the comments section, and I’m sure Koopa will post telling us it won’t work. I don’t think he likes to lose.

If you want to help kick Koopa’s ass even harder, ask as many people as you can to do the same thing. Send this link to your friends. Put this link in your message board signature. Digg this story, or whatever you use. Add it to your own blog. Be creative.

Again, thank you very much for your help.  Together, we are going to kick Koopa’s ass really, really bad.

GPokr.com is the best free poker on the internet

I keep going off about it, but I think it’s worthy of going off about.  GPokr.com is the best place on the internet to play poker for free.

I keep trying to get up into the higher tables, and I succeed enough to play for a couple hours every month.  But I always get overanxious and take a risk and end up handing my hard-earned winnings to another person at the table.  Then it’s back down to the newbie tables for me!

We’re halfway through the competition this month, and I need to really step up my game play if I’m going to have a chance at getting a medal this month.

SimYard will define the Baseball Management Simulation genre

January 14, 2008

I’m calling SimYard a “baseball management simulator”, but it’s more like a “baseball owner /manager simulator”.  There are some elements of managing involved, like setting lineups, pitching rotations, and choosing the closers, but there’s also team management and ownership elements as well.

When you sign up and get a team, you own that team.  You can cut players from it, and if someone wants to play for you, you can add them to your roster.  You start with a 25-man roster, but you can have up to 40 men if you find more guys to join your team.  You choose which teams to play and when.  You can choose exactly which pitcher to start, and you can adjust your lineup before the game begins.

Once you get a stadium and join a league, your team will play 162 games per season, and each season is 26 days long.  If you do the math, that’s about 6-7 games per day, and they’re at least two hours apart.  It would be unrealistic to think that you could be present for each of them, but there’s a computer manager that takes care of the on-field decisions.  He decides when to pull a pitcher, who to pinch hit with, and when to intentionally walk a player.  When a player is trying to steal, it’s the player on the field that decides exactly which pitch he’s going to go on.  If you’re watching the game, you can also provide some instructions to the dugout, such as to pull a pitcher, or to put a certain player into the game.

You can see the current status of SimYard on the website, simyard.com, until the end of the month when the beta test starts.  SimYard plays a season every month, and it uses real year numbers.  So the site will start testing with the 1898 season.  I am hoping that there won’t be any need for a wipe of the data on the website, and this data will become the historical data for the game.  It will be a unique opportunity to make history, and I hope you’ll join us for it.

Grow RPG Walkthrough and Answers

January 13, 2008

The only thing you have to decide is what order to use the eight pieces. Grow RPG is, in my opinion, the best in the series. Try it out for yourself here.

http://www.eyezmaze.com/grow/RPG/index.html

Here is the correct order:

1. Houses – This builds the first house.

2. Forest – Creates the first trees of the forest, and the house grows.

3. Castle – Creates a castle. The forest grows again, and the demon’s stomping creates a forest island. The house builds a tower.

4. Water – Fills the oceans in. The house builds a road to the forest and starts bringing lumber. The forest island gets a big tree that flowers. The castle grows.

5. Tower – The tower is built. The house builds a dock. The tree on the island turns blue. The demon creates the purple monster.

6. Rock – Rocks are build in the east. The tree on the island gets fruit. The tower gets a second level. The demon creates the blue monster.

7. Chest – A chest appears next to the rocks. The house creates a boat. The castle grows. The tower gets a new level. The earth rises up underneath the chest. Story items happen. The tower gets a third level. The demon creates the yellow monster.

8. Stairs – Stairs appear next to the rocks. A cabin is created in the woods. Extra rocks appear. The tower gets a fourth level. The hero begins his quest.

Enjoy the game!

SimYard ready for Beta Testing at the End of the Month

January 10, 2008

The baseball simulator I am creating will be ready for Beta Testing at the end of the month.  Since each month will be its own season, it’s an ideal time to open it up. I will be looking for beta testers so that we can start playing serious seasons, train the players, and make sure everything is balancing out.

If you want to be a beta tester, bookmark the site www.simyard.com and check back at the end of the month.  Once the beta test is complete, the website will use a subscription model.  Free accounts will still be able to play in the public fields, which will have its own tournament at the end of each season.  Upgraded accounts will be able to create and join leagues, have their own stadiums and finances, and draft the best players from the teams playing in the public fields.

In the meantime, I have posted some more screenshots on the site.
