Game Review Review: Punch Out!! for the Wii

May 26, 2009
From videogames

Good Review:

G4tv‘s review of Punch Out!! hits on all the major features you looks for in a review. It touches on all the new aspects of the game, including all the game modes. It goes through all the control options, as well as talking about the difficulty of the different aspects of the game, complete with details. Of all the reviews, this one best breaks down the game play once you load the disc. Yes, the pink track suit remains the same. The review emphasizes the difficulty of the game, and how it differs from other game options available today. It makes old gamers want to buy it to reminisce about how a game is supposed to be, and makes new gamers want to buy it to prove the new gamer is as skilled as the old.

Bad Review:

1UP‘s review of Punch Out!! covers most of the major points, but it goes into detail about specific animation details to make an overall point about nostalgia that is out of place in a review. If you ignore the opening tag line, the first three paragraphs are taken up talking about video game remakes, and how Punch Out!! is one of the best. The reviewer has chosen to compare the new game not to the original, but to the nostalgia-enhanced version in his head. That the game even stood up to that level of scrutiny does say a lot for it. It’s not until near the end of the review that we get some real detail about the new features of the game and how the different modes work. Unfortunately, it’s only two short paragraphs sandwiching an embedded video. Watching the video gave me a better feel for the game than anything else on the page.

Extra:

destructoid.com provides the best, and the most, screen shots of the game, although none of them show me the only new boxer, Disco Kid.

Almost every review agrees that while using the Wii Balance Board to dodge is pretty cool, it’s not fast enough to use when playing the more difficult fighters.

Netexpro3.exe What is it and how to remove it?

May 21, 2009

Well, according to some site that I have never heard of, Netexpro3.exe does the following:

NETEXPRO3.EXE has been seen to perform the following behavior:

  • Enables an In Process Object/Server – Common with DLL Injections
  • Can communicate with other computer systems using HTTP protocols
  • Executes a Process
  • This Process Deletes Other Processes From Disk
  • This process creates other processes on disk
  • The Process is packed and/or encrypted using a software packing process
  • The process hooks code into all running processes which could allow it to take control of the system or record keyboard input, mouse activity and screen contents
  • Registers a Dynamic Link Library File
  • Adds products to the system registry
  • Reads your outlook address book
  • Enables a COM Object/Server on the Local Machine
  • Communicates with other computers using FTP connections

NETEXPRO3.EXE has been the subject of the following behavior:

  • Created as a process on disk
  • Executed as a Process
  • Deleted as a process from disk
  • Terminated as a Process
  • Has code inserted into its Virtual Memory space by other programs
  • Enabled as a COM Object/Server on the Local Machine

My personal experiance is actually pretty close to what this website has to say.  I had a user complain that outlook was freezing up and when I reviewed task manager, I noticed netexpro3.exe taking up 100% of the CPU.  Once I killed the task, outlook started to respond and the CPU went back down to normal.  I am running a malwarebytes scan, and I am hoping that this will find whatever it is and kill it.  If I continue to have issues with it, I’ll let you know how I resolved the issue

Rightfax – how to import a txt file to faxutil phonebook

I had a user ask me today how to import rightfax phonebook from outlook.  I told him to first, export the contacts from outlook to a txt file.  Then to follow the following directions:

1) Log into FaxUtil.

2) Expand the user tree to the first user account that you want to update.

3) Highlight either the user’s ALL or MAIN folder.

4) Choose Tools -> Phonebook Import.

5) Select the import file

6) Change the Field Delimiter to Tab.

7) Leave the other settings at default.

8) Click Import.

9) You are Done!

winmail.dat + Exchange 2007 = Annoying

May 5, 2009

I found that the topic of the day was rather fitting.  Why?  Winmail.dat is just stupidly annoying.  First, lets go into what causes winmail.dat to occur.  Winmail.dat is generated when outlook sends an email as a Rich Text Format.  This format is an “outlook” only format and any non-outlook emails receive a winmail.dat message since they don’t play nice with outlook.  Basically, Rich Text is like sending emails to an exclusive club and anyone not in it gets the shaft.

Go Microsoft.

The fix?  Well, there are a couple of schools of thought.  First, you can change it on the client settings.  The down and dirty method is to tell all your users that receive this issue to not use Rich Text formatting.  Simple right?

The issue.  I had a user that uses quickbooks to send out paystubs.  Even though she was set to not use Rich Text, the quickbooks integration still did anyways.  Nothing like trying to see how much you got paid and you get a winmail.dat instead of your paystub.  WEEEEEEEEEE

The solution? Make exchange 2007 NOT use Rich Text formatting.  I know, this seems a little extreme, but sometimes you have to go for the gold.  Stupid Quickbooks.

Open Exchange Management Console

Expand Organization Configuration

Hub Transport

Edit the default properties

Under Exchange Rich-text format, select Never use.

Problem solved….

MyBrute Game…why is this entertaining? + Walkthrough

May 4, 2009

Well, first of all, it is hard as sin to create a username for this game.  I tried all the standard stuff, and nothing worked for me.  So, I had to go deep down and create the worst name I could think of.  Thats right, sexykoop123456!  Its sad, I know.  The game I am talking about?  My Brute, of course!

First, lets talk about the concept of the gaem.  You create your own character and you duel with other people’s generated characters.  It is all automated, so you can’t really interact with anyone.  As you fight more, you level up.  You can also level up by getting people to create accounts under your name.  The more experiance they get, you get.

The game is rather simple and basic, yet amusing.  I dare anyone to check it out and spar against the mighty, SEXYKOOP123456!
