Configure email on cellphone craziness

May 19, 2008

OK so I got this call and I knew it would be bad.  A user called who is known for not know what the hell she is doing.  Unfortunately, she is the operations manager for the company.  She has me on speaker phone and in the background, I hear the two partners jabbering in the background.  This company and technology do not mix, and a three way with these guys is never a good sign.  Well the conversation goes as follows:

Koopa: Helpdesk Koopa Speaking!

Operations: I need you to configure PARTNER’S cellphone with email…

Koopa: OK.  What is the operating system on the phone, windows, palm, blackberry or other.

Partner1: Motorola

Koopa: Ok. Motorola is the brand.  I need to know what the operating system on the phone is.  Does the phone have a model number?

Partner1: No.  It just says Motorola.  I can configure yahoo and aol on it!  I want my emails on the phone!

Koopa: OK…so it sounds like other…I can forward the email to a yahoo account if you like.  Our email system is not supported on the phone…

Partner2: Do that!  Create a yahoo account for him!  Forward the email!

Koopa:……. I don’t know his information…just go to yahoo.com and do it.  It will take a few minutes…

Operations: No you do it.  It will be much easier…

Koopa: Uhm… OK

So we configure the email for the user and I create the forward.  At this point I am pretty annoyed because this call is just stupid.  I inform the users what the username and passwords are.

Parter2: I cannot login to yahoo.com on my phone!  It keeps saying invalid password.

Koopa: The password is SETPASSWORD.

Partner2: I can’t do it.  FORGET THIS PHONE!  FORGET EMAIL!  I DON’T NEED THIS SHIT!!!

Partner1: PARTNER 1  YOU NEED EMAIL ON THE PHONE!

Operations: PARTNER 1, YOU NEED TO DO THIS!  WE NEED YOU TO GET EMAIL ON YOUR PHONE!

This goes on for about 15 minutes while I am just sitting there dumbfounded.  The end result is that I turned off the forwarding and now I have the creds for the most useless yahoo account ever imaginable…
