I was on the phone with a user today and the conversation goes like this.
Me: Helpdesk Koopa speaking!
User: I cannot get into my account.
Me: Let me check that for you. *Checks account and it is locked out. I then also select reset password
Me: I can reset your password. What would you like it to be.
User: Gives me password. P A S S W O R D (Mind you, she gave me a real password)
Me: inputs this twice.
User: I’m in. I am really in! Its a miracle! Its a Christmas miracle! You made my christmas!
Me: Glad to be of service! Have a great new year!
Now lets think about this. Let me list some christmas miracles and you decide if a password reset goes on the list.
- Remember reading about a mall santa came to visit a terminally ill girl and made her promise to survive to next christmas. No? It was cirrulated via email but it is a very touching story. Read it here!
- A boy stops to give a soldier a dollar as a christmas gift. Now mind you this is right after WW2 and a dollar was a lot of money. A christmas miracle? You decide. Read it here!
- A girl surviving cancer and made it home for the holidays. Read it here!
- Family saved from fire? Read it here!
- Two fans of rival teams getting along? A christmas Miracle? Read it here!
My point here is that to me, resetting a password is just that! but to some, it really does brighten their day to get some swift precise work to enable them to log into their computer and carry on their day. It may be that simple. Perhaps you don’t need santa coming to your hospital bed, or rival teams getting along…maybe we all just need cheerful IT support! You be the judge…and even today, I would not mind receiving a dollar for being me…
Authors note: A real christmas miracle would be if people started clicking on the google advertisements
