What is classified as a christmas miracle?

January 3, 2008

I was on the phone with a user today and the conversation goes like this.

Me: Helpdesk Koopa speaking!

User: I cannot get into my account.

Me: Let me check that for you. *Checks account and it is locked out. I then also select reset password

Me: I can reset your password. What would you like it to be.

User: Gives me password. P A S S W O R D (Mind you, she gave me a real password)

Me: inputs this twice.

User: I’m in. I am really in! Its a miracle! Its a Christmas miracle! You made my christmas!

Me: Glad to be of service! Have a great new year!

Now lets think about this. Let me list some christmas miracles and you decide if a password reset goes on the list.

  1. Remember reading about a mall santa came to visit a terminally ill girl and made her promise to survive to next christmas. No? It was cirrulated via email but it is a very touching story. Read it here!
  2. A boy stops to give a soldier a dollar as a christmas gift. Now mind you this is right after WW2 and a dollar was a lot of money. A christmas miracle? You decide. Read it here!
  3. A girl surviving cancer and made it home for the holidays. Read it here!
  4. Family saved from fire? Read it here!
  5. Two fans of rival teams getting along? A christmas Miracle? Read it here!

My point here is that to me, resetting a password is just that! but to some, it really does brighten their day to get some swift precise work to enable them to log into their computer and carry on their day. It may be that simple. Perhaps you don’t need santa coming to your hospital bed, or rival teams getting along…maybe we all just need cheerful IT support! You be the judge…and even today, I would not mind receiving a dollar for being me…

Authors note: A real christmas miracle would be if people started clicking on the google advertisements :)

Is it possble to disable standby mode remotely?

I have 400 computers under my command and all of them have standby mode enabled.  Standby mode is like the plague because it can be set by the system and by the user.  You disable standby mode for the system and it is still set for the user.  An option is to remove all user settings and reconfigure them all, but that is moronic!  (yes corporate did suggest doing that option.  I have some users that use one computer for 20 people.  I am NOT reconfiguring 20 user settings….this is not an option people!)

Then what is a guy to do?  My thoughts is to send out a rouge request to disable system standby remotely.  Why would this be a rouge request?  Because corporate does not support it!  They don’t feel that my 400 computers needs a policy control on system standby.  They feel that I should walk to every one of them, disable system standby for the system.  Then I should delete all user profiles and start from scratch… FUCK THAT!

My solution?  See below.

  • Find a script that will turn off system standby.  – DONE
  • Either push said script out via GPO or User profile – Scratched…too traceable.
  • Create a worm to insert script into all startup menus and thus script is run when user boots up – Detected by macafee

Unless I can think of a way to push this out without Corporate to find out, I may just go to every computer and run the script.  I have tested the script on a few computers, and they have not activated sleep mode yet so hopefully it works.  If so, sleep mode will be a thing of the past!

Seed Game Review

Want to make random assed flowers? Try out Seed!

http://n-dr01d.deviantart.com/art/seed-69663347

In my opinion, I do not see much value to this game… The purpose is to make exotic flowers out of the 5 options that the game provides. You can also make your own flower, by entering in DNA results. The game has potential, but turns out to be a lame duck.

Gameplay is a 2 and replay value is a 3. If you get into this game, it can be pretty cool but I just didn’t get into it. Sad really..I wish the game had more to it like having a goal to make a certain flower and you have a certain amount of turns to get there. That would make the game much more exciting! Hopefully the designer reads this site :)

Starbound Review and Walkthrough

Ever want to be Starbound?  Go for it here!

http://www.addictinggames.com/starbound.html

This is a rather silly game that involves jumping from ledge to ledge to get the highest score possible.  While one would think that there is no end, there is and it is very acheivable.  The first time I played this game, I got a crazy high score…but as I played a little bit more, I figured out how to get farther, rather than higher score.

The key to a high score is to do exactly what the game tells you not to do.  Hold down the up arrow and jump from ledge to ledge.  It will increase your combos and make your score skyrocket.

If you want to beat the game, pay attention where the ledges are and make precice jumps.  If you are careful, you should be able to beat this game without much of a problem.  There was only two ledge jumps that held me up.

Initial gameplay is a 7 while replay factor is a 2.  The site does not even have an option to submit your scores.  If it had that feature, the replay value would be much higher!

Spam of the Day -Random Characters

Erick thinks that these posts are silly…but I see merit!  I don’t even know what the perpose of this spam?  God only knows….
