Now, the process for doing an enterprise activation for my company is cumbersome to start but this time is was much worse. First, let me describe the process.
Step 1 – Get the blackberry. My company does not provide the blackberry so people need to buy it themselves. Make sure to have unlimited data!
Step 2 – Tell me you got a blackberry!
Step 3 – I tell the blackberry admin that they got a blackberry
Step 4 – Blackberry admin informs person that you need to pay the company money to have our email on the blackberrry
Step 5 – User replies back saying ok
Step 6 – BB admin adds user to BES server
Step 7 – BB admin informs me that user is added
Step 8 – I verify time with user to activate handheld
Step 9 – Do panda dance
Well, this user was doing fine until step 8. She wanted to activate the blackberry over the phone instead of having me come to her. That is fine, except that I would be coming to where her office is out of in an hour from the call she made. Regardless, I have no problem walking most people through the process. The conversation starts like this:
ME: Go to either email setup or enterprise activation. Note: I liked doing this much better when it was just enterprise activation. The little wizard thing makes the process complicated when it shouldn’t be. Bring back enterprise activation!
USER: I don’t see it!
ME: it is on your main application page
USER: I don’t see it!
ME: it is there. Look for it!
USER: I found it. IT says email setup
ME: (Joy! Again, just give me enterprise activation!) Ok open that and click Work email setup
USER: I opened it but I do not see it!
ME: read it to me…
USER: reads the part about the work email setup
ME: Click on that!
USER: OK now what
ME: You tell me….I do not have your blackberry
USER: It is prompting if I have it setup on the BES Server
ME: Yes
USER: OK. Now it wants me to input my email address
ME: Ok so put in your email address and a password that I provided to her
*1/2 an hour later, the user finally inputs her email address and password
ME: Have a happy new year!
It was simply painful to walk her through this. I have walked about 200 people to do enterprise activations and if they are willing to work with me, the process is easy. If they are lazy, it is just boring and difficult! Oh well…another day!

Very funny. I did go through this process with my BES supplier – http://www.123together.com/mobility.xhtml but had none of the hassles you experienced. Their people realyl made the transition painless. And, I had to call them back a few times.

George,
Unfortunately for me, our BES server is in house. I don’t have access to it (even though I have over 4+ years with being a BES administrator) so I have morons to the left of me, and morons to the right
