Rewview and Walkthrough of FreeRider!

December 14, 2007

And the next game on the review block is….. FREE RIDER!  This game is special, mostly because it is NOT hosted on addictinggames.com!  I needed a change, and free rider came out of it!

http://freerider.ugotgames.com/index.php

This game is great.  You design and build your own track.  If you can beat it, and record your success on utube, you can share this with everyone else.  You can also use other tracks that people have created to play.  How can you beat that?

The game is very simple.  You are a motorcycle and the goal is to get to the end of thr track.  Do not hit your head or you die.  Do no land wrong or you die.  Otherwise, the sky is the limits!  I have troubles beating these games but love to play them!

The gameplay is standard but a little bulky.  I give it a 5 but replay value is much higher.  You can make awesome tracks for other people to try to beat or attempt to do other impossible tracks.  You can find yourself playing this game for hours!  I give replay value a 9!

If you like these type of puzzle racing games, you will love Free Rider!

Entourage is running slow

Many of the problems experienced by Entourage users occur because of a corrupt database. Symptoms of a corrupt database include incorrect sorting, messages not displaying properly, and other unexplained behavior. Rebuilding the database should correct these issues. However, regular rebuilds are not recommended. It is recommended that you only rebuild when signs of corruption arise, or if you need to reclaim disk space (as a result of running out of disk space or nearing the database size limit).(link http://home.earthlink.net/~mickey.stevens/tutorials/rebuilddatabase.html)

Avoid Serious Database Corruption (Entourage 2004)In Entourage 2004, there is an option to have Entourage warn you when database corruption is detected, rather than waiting to see symptoms arise. To enable this feature, you must launch the Microsoft Database Utility.
1. Launch Entourage, holding down the “Option” key. Or, launch the Database Utility separately; it is located in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/.
2. If you are prompted, allow the Database Utility to quit open Office applications.
3. Once the Database Utility is open, select your identity from the list at the top.
4. Click the “Set Database Preferences” button, and click “Continue.”
5. Check the option to “Perform database integrity check in background,” and click “Save.”

Types of Rebuilds (Entourage X and 2001)

In Entourage X and Entourage 2001, there are two types of rebuilds: Typical and Advanced. Typical solves some less serious problems like incorrect sorting. Typical Rebuild is also best for reducing the database size and reclaiming disk space. If a problem persists after running a Typical Rebuild, try an Advanced Rebuild. Most more serious problems will require an Advanced Rebuild. An Advanced Rebuild clears server caches (Exchange, IMAP, and news).

Compressing the Database

Rebuilding the database is also the only way to compress it. The database functions similarly to the hard drive on your computer. When you delete a file, it’s not actually erased from the computer’s hard drive; the space is simply marked to be overwritten. Therefore, no more free space is really generated, but instead old files are overwritten when the time comes. The only way to truly create free space from these deleted files is to use an optimization/defragmentation utility.

In the case of the Entourage database, you must rebuild the database to reclaim disk space. In Entourage 2001 and Entourage X, do a Typical Rebuild. In Entourage 2004, there is an option to “Compact” in the Microsoft Database Utility.

You should rebuild the database to reclaim disk space only after you have deleted a large amount of data. It is especially important that you rebuild the database if you near the database size limit. Entourage X (with the latest updates applied) and 2004 will warn you when you near the database size limit; Entourage 2001 will not.

Entourage 2004 has a database size limit of 16 exabytes (equal to approximately 16 billion GB). The database does have a limit on the number of database objects, that being 2 million. However, some items count as multiple database objects; for example, all messages count as two database objects. Unfortunately, there is no way to ascertain how many database objects there are at any given time since some objects do not correspond to a visible record. Regardless, if you do near the database size limit, Entourage will warn you.

Entourage X has a database size limit of 4 GB. The original release (10.0.0), like Entourage 2001, had a limit of only 2 GB.

Entourage 2001 has a database size limit of 2 GB.

How to Rebuild
Entourage 2004
You must launch the Microsoft Database Utility.
4. Click the “Rebuild Database” button, and click “Continue.” (If you are attempting to reduce database size to reclaim disk space and are not seeing signs of corruption, choose to “Compact”)

Entourage X
First go to Entourage -> Turn Off Office Notifications. Now, quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild. If that does not fix the problem, repeat the procedure, instead opting to do the Advanced Rebuild. Most of the serious problems you might encounter will require an Advanced Rebuild.

NOTE: Make sure you’ve applied the latest updates, as the updates include an improved Rebuild engine.

Entourage 2001
Quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild. If that does not fix the problem, repeat the procedure, instead opting to do the Advanced Rebuild. Most of the serious problems you might encounter will require an Advanced Rebuild.

Why I love Fridays!

I like to do this every once and awhile.  I like to declare why I love Fridays!  This Friday, I look at my life with a fine glass of wine and some cheese and say, hey, you aren’t doing too bad for yourself.

Let me take a step back.  For those of you that notice, it is 3pm on a work day.  Yes, I do have a glass of wine and some cheese.  Not the cheap kind either.  The nice shit that bursts with flavor every bite.  The wine is less expensive…white with a bitter aftertaste.  I would of liked it to be a little smoother.  My company got this as a gift so we would use the services of this lawyer.

I don’t care, I just fix computers.  That won’t stop me from having some fine cheese and wine.  So looking back today and  I will just enjoy being alive.  I will enjoy spilling wine on my keyboard (As I just did) and enjoy another week where I have good health, good family, good friends, and good wine :)

Project Sillican Zebra – one hell of a ride!

Well we (mostly Erick, he has been great with this) are mostly done with template design.  It has been a rough couple of days while we figure everything out!  Getting the site perfect is quite addicting and consuming all of my time.  This is not so hot for my primary job for all I can think about is the blog.  My wife says I’m obsessed which, really, is good for all of you!  I have never had a project last this long, let alone be this successful!  4 months ago, I was ready to give up but figured it wasn’t that much work to write about what is on my mind.  Now there are close to 200 posts and roughly 1000 people hit the site a day!

I must be doing something right…those are some pretty good stats.  Well hopefully there will be no more major site reconfigurations and everything stays looking solid.  Choices are great until you start implementing them!  We really needed to create a beta site but opted to just make the changes on the fly.  Well let us know what you think of the site!

Review and Walkthrough? of Simyard!

That is right, I got to demo the game Simyard!  Yes the game that Erick has been developing for what seems like FOREVER!  I say he should go live and be done with it.  It is ready, it is fun, rip off the band-aid and be done with it!  With that said, check out the site here.  He hasn’t opened up the playing to the public yet, but I have a feeling it will be a matter of seconds now? Minutes? Hours? Days? Weeks? Years?

http://simyard.com

With that said, lets get to the functionality of the game!  It starts off with the ability to create a team.  I created the Koopa Turtle Shell (Erick was pissed off that I didn’t name the team the Koopas) and you get to customize your colors and what not.  Then you hit “the park” and you have 4 different fields to chose from.  If a field is open, click it!  Then like a bunch of morons, you wait for another player (yes, another human player!  I don’t know if he will give the option to play against some computer players…(but he should include that if he didn’t want to!) and then you hit the field.  You choose the pitcher you want and then you go and pick your batting order.  The game automatically picks what it feels to be the best batting order so 9 times out of 10, there is no reason to change it.  You wait for your opponent to pick and away you go!

Once the game starts playing, there is not much for you to do.  The game was hysterical for the only reason that I was chatting with Erick and another beta player throughout the games.  With this notion, chat is going to be developed where originally it was not.  You sit back and watch as your team either does well or sucks ass.  I personally think there should be a little needle icon to boost the performance of the players but maybe that would take away the integrity of the game?  NAHHHHHHHH HIT THOSE HOMERS YOU JACKASS OR YOUR FIRED!  Gameplay is a 2 (mostly because there is no gameplay) but replay with chat is a solid 10.  There is nothing better than being able to torment your opponent when your player hits a triple by sending the ball deep in the outfield.  It only happened once, but I surely had some bragging rights!

Good job Erick and make that shit live soon!

Review and Walkthrough of Raft Wars!

Care to fight pirates and vikings on rafts?  Sounds great where do I sign up?  OH Right here!

http://www.addictinggames.com/raftwars.html

The game starts out with a 2 year old digging on the beach.  As he digs, he finds gold and diamonds!  WOOHOO Gold and diamonds!  This 2 year old is RICH!  RICH RICH! OH NO! What is that? Pirates?!?!?!?! What is a 2 year old to do except recruit your 4 year old brother and hang out on rafts.  Then get cannons filled with tennis balls to hail at the pirates.  You defeat the pirates, good job and move to the next round.  Repeat and rinse!

With that said, I was truly impressed with this game.  It reminds me of Worms Armageddon meets rafts?  And no worms.  It was kinda weird that worms had weapons of mass destruction anyways right? So there are about 5 or 6 levels that start off easy and works it way up to harder and harder.  There were times where I was pissed off and times I was happy.  I couldn’t beat it in 5 minutes but it didn’t take me 10 years to beat either.  A good balance for a flash game.

The gameplay is pretty smooth though there were times I swear I didn’t move the mouse, but the shot did not hit in the same location.  That made me mad!  Other than that, the gameplay rocked and will get a 8 ranking.  Replay value is pretty good as well, 8 as well.  The ending was hokey but you will never expect it!  You need to play till the end.  Play it for the token black kid!

Review and Walkthrough of Staggy the Boyscout Slayer II

If you were like me and hated the Boy Scouts, this game is you!  STAGGY THE BOYSCOUT SLAYER II!  As always, link below!

http://www.addictinggames.com/staggytheboyscoutslayerii.html

First lets get how you play out of the way.  It is simple so lets just get with it.  Space is attack.  Move, duck and jump with the arrow keys.  Change weapon is numbers 1-7 and to Pause the game is P.

You can buy things in the shop between rounds.  One round lasts for 60 seconds.  To buy stuff simply click the item you want if you have enough money.  you get money from killing boyscouts or picking up chests.

Now back to why I hated the Boy Scouts.  I loved the Cub Scouts and completely finished them.  It was great.  You have badges and you went through the tasks to obtain them all!  You had fun with your friends and a good time was had by all.  This was not the case with Boy Scouts.  I believe that what went on my Boy Scout troop would never fly these days.  First, you were pinned up in teams during meetings.  Then you were pitted against the two teams in very physical tasks.  If your team won, you line up in a line.  The losing team would then go under your legs and it was your job to slap their ass as hard as you could.  I hated getting my ass slapped by 10 to 15 people at a meeting.  This is why this game appeals to me.

You are a thug who has a weapon.  You then proceed to slaughter the boy scouts.  The boy scouts are not innocent, for they are trying to kill you as well.  They just suck at it.  Its not their fault!

Gameplay is only a 5 but replay value is pretty high at a 8.  The game is stupid but I seem to be drawn back to it every time.  Go figure?  Anyways, I recommend you give the game a go and see how do you.  You may love it, or hate it!  Only time to tell…
