Printer problems with Canon C4080 Image Runner

October 3, 2007

One of my offices got a new printer and needed it to be setup on the print server.  Not a problem, I thought, this will take all of 10 minutes to do.  Well I go to configure the printer with the driver cd that came with it and recieved this gem of an error message.

“Cannot print because the version of the device controller function is old.  Contact the administrator for details”

I scratched my head and tried another driver.  This time it printed to the printer but gave a 854 error code in the job status.  At this point, I am furious!  It should not be this hard to configure a damned printer.

The last straw was to download drivers from the internet.  I got PS drivers instead of the PCL drivers that was provided on the CD.  This worked like a charm!  Next task is to get scanning to work!!!

Project Failure! Why aren’t we failing?

Come tomorrow, the hits to this blog will more than likely surpass the amount of posts that I have…

Does this mean we are failing at the failure of Project Failure?  Time will tell.  I am not overly surprised that I am generating hits but I am surpised that I am generating this many hits.  I am now averaging about 3 hits a day for this week.  Again, the purpose of this blog is no advertising other than google…perhaps I am doing well in the titles I am picking.

The knowledge bases help.  They seem to generate the most amount of hits.  I have at least 120 kb articles that I have written over the years that  I can include on this site not to mention the new content I am providing as the need comes up.

To make sure that Project Failure continues to fail, I will say I want to generate 20 hits a day before I will make the statement that I want 40 hits a day :)

How to use Flip 3D in Windows Vista

Subject: How to use Flip 3D in Windows Vista?

Description/Question: I have Windows Vista and want to know how do I page through windows like in the commercials. What is the command to do this?

*NOTE: your videocard needs to support the more advanced features of Vista in order to do this.

Solution/Answer: Launch Flip 3D:

Just press and hold the Windows Key + Tab. Then use the scroll wheel on your mouse or the up and down keyboard arrows to navigate through the windows. When the window you want is on top, release the Windows and Tab keys.

Sadly, I really wanted to know how to use Flip 3D.  I am kind of disappointed with what it actually is.  It is just ALT Tab in 3D…

Tape Drive Malfunction…

So I came into work this morning and everything was cool.  I needed to install a larger capacity tape drive.  I took out the old one and took out the cdrom drive as well.  The newer tape drive required two bays instead of your standard one.  I go to put the tape drive in the bay and it does not fit!.

It turns out that the server has grooves for the bays and my tape drive does not fit with the grooves.  I didn’t have the tools to properly bend the server into place, so I closed her up and informed my boss.  I am hoping that he doesn’t tell me to modify the case.  I always hate doing stuff like that :|

Another day in paradise!
