Monitor Blackout

October 2, 2007

So I got a call today from this woman.  She works in an office that is 10 minute drive from my office.  Here how the conversation goes.

Me: Helpdesk.  How may I help you?

Woman: I cannot log into my computer.  My name is BLAHASAHSHFDSHFDS (as she says it really fast)

Me: What is your name again?

Woman: My name is Woman.

Me: Ok, Let me look up your account. *I notice her account has been locked out from trying the wrong password too many times.  I unlock her account.

Woman: I have not been able to log in from home because I have a virus.  Whenever I would go to the website, it would deny me.

ME: Your password has been unlocked.  This should have nothing to do with your home virus problem.

Woman: I still cannot log in.  Whenever I type anything, the monitor blacks out.  The only way I get the monitor to work is to turn it off and back on.

Me: It sounds like your monitor is broken.  I know there is a spare monitor at your location.  Have the office manager plug in this monitor to you and you should be good to go.  If you have any problems, I will be at your location this afternoon.

Woman: Ok.  I will talk to the office manager.

Now, besides the fact that the woman was a little slow, I see no problems with this call.  BUT two seconds later, I get a call from the office manager.

ME: helpdesk, how may I help you.

Office manager: Can you come here now.  Woman has a problem with her computer.

ME: I just spoke with her.  It sounds like her monitor is broken.  You have a spare, just hook it up.

Office manager: I can’t do that.  Come here and fix it.

ME: I will be there in the afternoon.  I am doing things now (not really…)

Office Manager: FINE!

ME: I will try to free up my schedule and come sooner if I can.

Office Manager: OK

Now these are flat panel monitors and extremely easy to swap out.  They only weigh 10 lbs at best and the weakest of people can exchange them.  I am not going to run over and fix this for them.  If it was another office, they would have to wait a few days before I would stop by to fix this issue.  The only reason they want me there is because they are too lazy to do it themselves!  A few weeks ago, I went there to fix a internet issue on a computer and it turned out that the computer was unplugged from the internet.  I am not making stupid trips to this office again!

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me!

Don’t forget the brownies…

So it was my parents in law’s aniversary a few days ago.  I think they have been married for 32ish years or so.  Don’t quote me on that! :)   My wife’s family decided to do a little dinner thing and give them gifts and what not.  It was our job to bring part of the gift.

My wife thought it would be a great idea to also make brownies.  The brownies were made by the time I came home.  This was good since everyone was like, you won’t have time to make them and blah blah blah.  As we leave, I go, don’t forget the brownies.  With the brownies in tow we enter the car and leave.  My wife then turns to me and says….

WE FORGOT THE GIFT.

My reply was, at least we remembered the brownies :)

 They were yummy too!!!
