Offline Sync Issues

September 7, 2007
Subject: How to prevent Synchronization Manager from synchronizing offline files during log off or log on

Description/Question: At one point, offline synchronization was turned on and now how do you turn it off?

http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=8473

Solution/Answer: 1. Start / Run / mobsync / OK.

2. Press Setup in the Items to Synchronize dialog.

3. Select the Logon/Logoff tab.

4. Clear the When I log on to my computer and When I log off my computer boxes under Automatically synchronize the selected items.

5. If you desire a prompt before Synchronization Manager begins synchronizing Offline Files, check the Ask me before synchronizing the items box.

6. Press OK.

7. Press Close.

I wrote up this little kb article for my company because I had someone’s laptop that would not stop doing the offline sync even after I removed the user’s profile that it was setup for.  It was very annoying.  Google had saved me again!

Why do people think I am GOD?

Do I look like I will save you?  Do I look like I can cure cancer?  Do I look like I am Bruce Allmighty?  NO

So when it comes to computers, why do people think I am their God to be worshiped?  My office did not have an IT person here for a couple of months and I think it was good for these people.  These people are rich and lazy.  Lazy people never care to figure out why their computer investment is not working.  They just want it to work.  They then latch on to whoever they think will save them from themselves, which happens to be me.  I do not mind to an extent…but I have two prime examples of why this is not a good thing.

1. A lady came to my cube this morning with her laptop.  She said, why does it not work…without me even looking at it, my answer is, because the computer does not like you!  If she gave more than 30 seconds to try to figure out what was wrong, she would know the answer.  The computer overheated and froze and she had no icons displaying.  They keyboard was unresponsive.  The solution was to reboot the computer.  She did not know that she had to hold the power button on the laptop for 5 seconds for it to turn off…she owned the laptop for 3 years.  HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER AFTER THREE YEARS?!?!?!?!?!?!

2. I am also the blackberry specialist at my company.  A user had just got a new blackberry and wanted all the bells and whistles installed on it.  I reluctantly did this knowing that it would give me problems.  I come in this morning with a voicemail asking, you know that google maps program you installed for me, can it speak out the voices while I am driving… WHAT DO YOU THINK?  NO! It is free..if you want a GPS, BUY A DAMNED GPS!  People want everything for nothing and want to have it without doing any work for it.  I AM NOT YOUR GOD, I CANNOT MAKE WINE OUT OF WINE!

Project Failure! Keep it going

I am now going to deem this blog, Project Failure.  Here are some things I would like to accomplish to make this blog keep on failing along.

Tip of the day/week/month/year – It really depends on how many tips I can think of.  We will start with day, turn into week, and then as they dry up….month and year.  If I cannot think of one tip on a year to year basis, then Project Failure is a success?  :)

Daily Post of nothing: I want at least one point on this…the more posts of nothing the more Project Failure will survive.  We need more failure to create success?

I believe that is it for now….Koopa signing off

Why do cars hate you?

For your information, I drive about an hour to get to work.  This dirving is mostly highway driving.  At this point, that is when I realized that cars really hate you.  I don’t understand what causes people to stop on a highway.  There is no accident.  There is no problem.  Someone decided to stop and cause a 10 minute traffic delay.  Do people forget how to drive?  I just don’t understand.  Oh well…just remember, cars hate you!
